BJ’s Wholesale Club in Ocean reopens after July roof collapse
The Ocean Township store reopened this week after a July roof collapse during heavy rain and flooding forced it to close.

A popular BJ’s Wholesale Club location in Ocean Township reopened this week after it was abruptly shut down in July because of a roof collapse.
The collapse happened at about 11:30 a.m. on July 6 as heavy rain and severe flooding moved through the area.
Surveillance video from inside the store captured the moment part of the roof above the bakery section collapsed, flooding a portion of the store and sending customers running for safety.
On Monday, Ocean Township Mayor John Napolitani announced on Facebook that the store had officially reopened.
“In case you missed the notice … BJ’s Wholesale Club is now OPEN!!! It looks fantastic and fully stocked! Thank you to everyone involved getting this open,” Napolitani wrote.
Before reopening, the store underwent extensive renovations in the area affected by the collapse and completed building inspections.
The store, located on Route 35, opens daily at 8 a.m.
