A suspect involved in a series of car thefts and a knife attack against police officers was arrested Sunday in Bergen County.
South Hackensack police responded to a business on Route 46 following a reported crash and stolen vehicle around 2:34 a.m.
Authorities say the occupant of the crashed vehicle abandoned it and unsuccessfully tried to steal another nearby vehicle.
Prosecutors say the suspect went on to commit an “armed carjacking of an additional vehicle, allowing him to flee the scene before officers arrived.”
The carjacked vehicle was then located on the George Washington Bridge. Officers arrived at the scene and located the suspect, who proceeded to attack them with a knife.
Police say he “also attempted to steal a police patrol vehicle during the confrontation.”
Three officers from the Port Authority Police Department were injured, according to authorities.
The suspect was ultimately arrested and hospitalized. His identity is being withheld as criminal charges are being filed in Bergen County.
