The hurricane relief effort for Puerto Rico was getting some much-needed help from an Essex County community on Saturday.
A benefit concert and donation drive was held on Mount Prospect Avenue in Newark. Musical acts performed all day and into the night, and while the music was pumping, volunteers were keeping busy sorting and packing donated items like water, toiletries and mosquito repellent.
The supplies were gathered by the Newark community for those still struggling more than two weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.
Once everything is packed up, the donated goods will be placed in four containers and shipped out to Puerto Rico.
