Sixty-two-year-old Belmar lifeguard Tim O?Donnell has been a lifeguard for the past 46 summers and says he isn?t ready to call it quits any time soon.
O?Donnell, a retired soccer coach and physical education teacher in Lakewood, works at the beach every summer, but he doesn?t call it a summer job. He calls it fun. "You meet a million people here, get to work out everyday, a nice environment,? he said.
O?Donnell says the Jersey Shore has been a big part of his life. He says it?s where he met the girl of his dreams, with whom he?s been married to for 38 years.
O?Donnell says he enjoys showing the new lifeguards the ropes. He also says the only thing that has changed drastically about the job since he started is the equipment.
O?Donnell says other guys his age would consider desk jobs, but he says office jobs are not for him.
