Hazy, hot and humid conditions swept across the Bronx Tuesday, but people heading to Orchard Beach were kept out of the water.
No swimming was allowed there Tuesday because no lifeguards were on duty after Labor Day.
Many people who visited the beach said they didn't know that swimming was prohibited. A few said they went into the water and were told by park staff to get out.
Public Advocate Letitia James says she asked Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Parks Department to extend the beach season and lifeguard duty so people can still swim at the beach on hot days after Labor Day.
