For the second time in as many nights, police officers in New Jersey have opened fire on a suspect.
Bayonne police shot and injured a man near Prospect Avenue Friday evening.
Officials have not released many details about the shooting, but a witness tells News 12 New Jersey what he saw.
“The officers were doing everything they could in defense, the whole time they were backing away from him,” says witness James Flood. “As the officers were still backing up, it turns out he had a knife in his other hand.”
Flood says that the officers fired two shots, but he did not know if the man survived.
A spokesperson for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office tells New 12 that as of 7:30 p.m., the man was still alive.
