Four people were displaced after a fire damaged a home in Bayonne on Thursday morning, according to Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

The flames erupted at 9:25 a.m. at 69 W. 3rd St. Weaver says fire officials found heavy smoke coming from the first floor of a two-story home. He says firefighters used two handlines to extinguish the blaze which was contained to the first floor, and the fire was under control at 9:43 a.m.

According to Weaver, all residents were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. Four cats were rescued from the house.

The Red Cross says it’s assisting four people with emergency assistance.

Weaver says the firefighters’ work kept the fire from extending further into the home and to a nearby neighboring structure.

An investigation found that the cause of the fire was likely electrical.
