Autumn air sticks around for one more day, and then a taste of late spring is sprung on the region just in time for the weekend.
The last couple of days northerly winds have opened the door to allow colder air to spill over the border from Canada. Daytime highs have been underperforming for this time of year. Typically the daily high is 65 degrees. Most neighborhoods were in the upper-50s and low-60s. Nothing record-breaking but enough to remind us of the season we are in.
OUTLOOK: Changes are brewing as fair weather slowly drifts away from the state. Winds will become more southerly and slowly start dragging Carolina air up the coast. Instead of feeling like October, the forecast will have a late May feel in the air. Low 70s for the weekend and possibly flirting with 80 early next week.
THE WARM UP: When? This weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be in the low- to mid-70s under glorious sunshine. Record warmth? No, but if you want to do some leaf peeping, pumpkin or apple picking, the weather will be just phenomenal.
THE DROUGHT: Continues to get worse. Today is the 18th consecutive day where we haven't seen a drop collect in our rain gauges. Reservoirs and groundwater are vanishing. We need rain and it doesn't look like we have a good shot at it in the next seven to 10 days.
TONIGHT: Clear and chilly tonight. Lows in the 30s and 40s.
TOMORROW: Sunny and seasonable. Highs in the upper-60s.
