Authorities say a man accused of violating a restraining order repeatedly stabbed himself with a knife during a standoff with police before an officer used a stun gun to help subdue him.

Authorities say a man accused of violating a restraining order repeatedly stabbed himself with a knife during a standoff with police before an officer used a stun gun to help subdue him.
Ridgefield Park police were notified Monday just before 9 a.m. that Michael Krocka, 71, had violated the order and then fled the scene in his car.
Officers soon stopped the vehicle on Route 80 West in Hackensack.
Krocka was told to exit the car, but refused.
According to authorities, he then pulled a large kitchen knife from his waistband and pointed it at an officer before stabbing himself in the abdomen.
The officer discharged a stun gun, and Krocka was subdued by another officer.
Krocka was hospitalized with wounds that are not considered life-threatening.
He faces numerous counts, including aggravated assault and stalking.
It wasn't known Tuesday if he's retained an attorney.
