Hudson County officials have identified the child remains found in a suitcase in Jersey City as a 2-year-old girl missing from Richmond, Virginia.
The child was identified as Te’Myah Layauna Plummer. The girl’s remains were found April 11 by a set of train tracks underneath the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge by Port Authority employees.
Hudson County officials say that during the investigation law enforcement officers were contacted by Richmond police about a missing persons case. Richmond police say that the girl and her father, Travis Lamont Plummer, were previously reported missing in March.
Travis Plummer, 37, was subsequently found and arrested in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was taken into custody April 19.
The father has been charged with desecrating human remains and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.
Officials have not yet determined how the girl died, but say that they believed she died out-of-state.
