A five-alarm fire over the weekend in Kearny sent two firefighters and a homeowner to the hospital, as well as left three pets dead.

A five-alarm fire over the weekend in Kearny sent two firefighters and a homeowner to the hospital, as well as left three pets dead.
The Kearny Fire Department says the fire broke out Sunday around 9 a.m. on Elm Street, and took more than three hours to get under control.
When fire crews arrived on scene, the flames had already spread to neighboring homes. Neighbors were evacuated from their homes. At least nine people, two of them children, remain without a home.
Multiple jurisdictions helped out in getting the fire under control.
One of the firefighters has been released from the hospital. No word on the statuses of the two others.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
