An attempted carjacking in Hazlet has many neighbors on edge Friday.
Police say the 44-year-old female victim had pulled over near Coral Drive and Clark Street to put on makeup. They say a man came out of nowhere, opened the victim?s car door and attacked her.
?She fought him off with her hands and her feet and she had a knife in the vehicle, which belonged to her, and she displayed that,? Hazlet Deputy Chief Rocco Serpico said.
Authorities say the suspect fled on foot. The victim had some bruises, contusions and injuries to her head.
Police say the woman could have avoided her ordeal if she would have locked her door.
?If you have your car door locked and he comes over and tries to open the door, that?s the first line of defense you would have,? Serpico said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police.
