The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office and Rowan Medicine teamed up on Monday to provide mobile COVID-19 vaccine shots to people in Atlantic City.
The vaccines were distributed at the Atlantic City Bus Terminal. City resident Robin Snead was one of many who showed up.
“I was on my way to the terminal anyway…so I did it…and now I’m good to go,” she says.
No appointments were necessary to get the shot. But officials say that getting people to show up was the biggest hurdle.
“This is a community that does not trust doctors, in all fairness. So we’re just starting the conversation and explaining to them that this will save their life ultimately,” says Dr. Richard Jermyn.
“This is the middle of Atlantic City. There’s a really strong transient, as well as active addiction community here,” says Sheriff Eric Scheffler. “We knew that if we popped up here, we’d be able to see a lot of people.”

Officials say they wanted to save their allotment of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for situations where requiring only one dose of the vaccine would be important.
"It's the only way you could do this, absolutely the only way. And actually that's been the big confusion here, people are asking…we say that's it you don't need to come back in because we know we wouldn't get them back in,” says Jermyn.
The pop-up clinic had 300 doses of the vaccine to distribute.
