Two 14-year-olds used a viral TikTok trend to steal a car and led police on a car chase Friday in Atlantic City. Police say the two men were only stopped when the car they stole started to break down.
Atlantic City police say they spotted a stolen Kia driving down Drexel Avenue and tried to pull the car over. That's when police say the teens sped off, but they were spotted again. The car was moving slower since it apparently overheated. Police say the driver and passenger of the car exited the vehicle while it was still in motion.
One officer chased the driver, who was caught with assistance from another officer. Then the passenger was arrested, police say.
When the two teens were arrested, police say the driver was found with USB cables and two screwdrivers. The passenger also had a screwdriver. Police say these are common tools used in a TikTok challenge to steal Kia and Hyundai vehicles. They say the driver also had an active warrant for his arrest.
The driver and passenger both face multiple charges, including receiving stolen property, possession of burglar tools and resisting arrest.
