An Atlantic City man has pleaded guilty to weapons and assault charges in two separate cases, authorities said, adding that he faces a state prison sentence.

Shawn Braxton, 49, pleaded guilty Monday in Superior Court to unlawful possession of a handgun without a permit and aggravated assault.

Under the plea agreement, Braxton is expected to be sentenced to five years in a New Jersey state prison, concurrent with a four-year prison term. Sentencing is scheduled for April 20, officials said.

Authorities said the aggravated assault charge stems from a Dec. 7, 2024 incident in Atlantic City. Investigators determined Braxton spat on, punched and attempted to pepper-spray another person. He was later located and arrested.

Prosecutors sought to have him detained, but he was released on pretrial monitoring.

Braxton was arrested again on June 29, 2025, after Atlantic City police conducted a traffic stop and learned he was carrying a handgun as a passenger in the vehicle without a permit, authorities said. Following that arrest, he was ordered to be detained.
