An Atlantic City man was sentenced to four years in state prison for his role in a 2023 shooting that left two men wounded and sent gunfire into a parked vehicle where a 2-year-old child was strapped into a car seat, authorities said.
Christopher Davis, 38, was sentenced Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
He will also be under parole supervision for three years after his release.
Atlantic City police responded to the shooting on South Florida Avenue on Sept. 5, 2023, and found two men who had been shot in the legs. A bullet also struck the rear passenger door of a parked vehicle where a woman and her 2-year-old child were sitting. The child was strapped into a car seat near where the bullet hit, authorities said.
Several other parked vehicles were hit by gunfire, and police found about 27 spent shell casings at the scene.
Surveillance video showed a Nissan Altima circle the block several times before a masked passenger got out and opened fire while the driver waited nearby, according to prosecutors. Another man then fired multiple shots down Florida Avenue before the Nissan sped away.
Police found the Nissan six days later with Davis behind the wheel. Investigators said data from Davis’ phone placed it near the shooting when it happened and showed it leaving the area afterward, consistent with the surveillance video.
Davis was also sentenced to a concurrent three-year prison term after authorities said he was found with a shank at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in January 2024 while being held in connection with the shooting.
