An Atlantic City man has been charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of his 1-year-old daughter.
Imodd Brown Dillihay, 29, was charged on Monday, July 27, following a monthslong investigation by Atlantic City police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation began on Feb. 2, when officers responded to an Atlantic City apartment following a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child. The infant was rushed to the hospital, where she later died from severe injuries.
According to medical examiner's findings, the child suffered profound blunt force trauma to her head and neck. An autopsy revealed extensive internal and external injuries, including forehead contusions, neck abrasions, retinal hemorrhages, severe brain edema and spinal cord injuries.
Pathologists determined that the child's injuries resulted from multiple blunt force impacts and were consistent with an inflicted homicide, far exceeding any trauma that could result from medical resuscitation efforts.
Investigators allege that Dillihay was the sole caretaker responsible for the child at the time the fatal injuries occurred.
A detention hearing is tentatively scheduled for next week, and the investigation remains open.
