A major rezoning plan in Brooklyn is hitting a new roadblock as one community board is pulling back its support for the Atlantic Avenue mixed-used plan.

The project calls for redeveloping a roughly 20 block stretch of Atlantic Avenue and nearby streets.

It includes 4,600 new homes, with 1,400 set aside as affordable housing.

But Community Board 8 says that's not enough. It is now demanding deeper affordability, more incentives for industrial use and legal support for tenants at risk of displacement. People who live in the area have mixed feelings.

"I think that we deserve affordable housing. My concern is that it's not going to be that," said Candace Rustin, of Clinton Hill. "The deal that they’ve been making with rent reduction apartments have been so minuscule that it really hasn’t had much impact for the average Brooklynite. And so my hope is that they’re going to do it to benefit the people and not the developers who are developing them."

The City Council will have the final vote on the plan. Community Board 8 says it just wants to make sure the long-term needs of residents are met.

News 12 reached out to the City Council for a response on the community board's concerns, but has not heard back.
