At least two people are dead following an overnight
three-alarm fire that broke out at a two-story home in Teaneck, Fire Chief Jordan Zaretsky says.
The fire began around 3:30
a.m. at the home on Arlington Avenue, primarily on the first and second floor.
According
to Zaretsky, when firefighters arrived, there was an
active fire on the second floor of the house. The home suffered significant
damage.
Zaretsky says the bodies were found in an attic bedroom apartment.
Firefighters had the main portion of the fire put
out by about 4:30 a.m. Firefighters from 11 different towns responded, as well
as EMS back up due to the heat.
"They are
professionals,” says Zaretsky. “They do what they have to do. We support them,
we make sure physically, emotionally and mentally that they're in great
shape."
One Teaneck firefighter suffered a burn on his leg.
He was taken to a hospital and released. Two firefighters from responding towns
were also treated on scene for heat exhaustion.
Firefighters searched the
home multiple times,
and they are
confident there will not be any further victims.
The fire does not appear suspicious at this time.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
