On Ash Wednesday, most people who receive ashes on their foreheads attend a specific Mass at church. On Wednesday, commuters had the opportunity to receive their ashes on the go at Westfield Train Station in Westfield. The ashes received today were made from palm branches from last year's Palm Sunday service.
Lent represents the 40 days that Christians believe Jesus wandered the desert praying and fasting after he was baptized. It is a period of reflection, prayer and penance.
