One of Asbury Park's boardwalk landmarks is a step closer to a complete makeover.
Developers Madison Marquette are hoping to turn the Fourth Avenue pavilion into a year-round building.
The developers submitted an artist’s rendition of what the new building will look like to city officials. The proposal passed the first of three steps needed before work can begin.
Madison Marquette says that the goal is to make the pavilion more user-friendly from the Ocean Avenue side. It is directly across the street from I-Star's planned 17-story hotel.
“We are going to have larger retail open to Boardwalk and Ocean Avenue,” says Madison Marquette development manager Kevin Patterson. “We are also introducing second-floor office space, creating year-round occupancy on the Boardwalk. We are creating a great community here on the waterfront."
The development plan still has to pass through Asbury Park City Council and the Planning Board before work can begin. Madison Marquette would like to see renovations completed before next summer.
