An art exhibit is kicking off the events for Jersey City’s LGBT Pride festival next weekend.
The exhibit is entitled "Pride: From Raids To Parades.” It has opened at Art House Productions and features photographs, paintings and sculptures of several local artists.
All of the art is related to the Stonewall riots 50 years ago. This event helped to launch the modern gay rights movement.
“I want people to learn more about the movement through the artists' eyes,” says curator Andrea McKenna. “A lot of artists here have their own interpretations of the Stonewall Rebellion but also the LGBTQ movement, in general."
An opening reception that is free for the public will be held Saturday evening. More information on the event can be found on the art house’s website.
