Five teens were arrested Tuesday and Wednesday in connection with pyrotechnic devices found inside lockers at Wayne Valley High School.
The prosecutor?s office said the five arrested teens are recent graduates of the high school. The former students each face seven charges, including attempted aggravated arson, possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose and attempt to cause widespread injury or damage. They also face burglary charges in connection with allegedly entering the school twice.
The suspects are accused of placing incendiary devices inside two lockers on the night of June 12. A student discovered the devices sticking out of a second-floor locker the next day, prompting an evacuation. The bomb squad eventually removed the devices and detonated them.
Passaic County authorities formed a joint task force to find the suspects. Last week, the prosecutor?s office released surveillance video taken inside the school when the devices were planted.
Those arrested were Mauricio Alarco, 19, Robert S. Margolies, 18 and Michael J. Bacchioni, 18. The two others arrested were 17 at the time of the incident and are being charged as juveniles. Their names were not released.
