A beloved family-owned Mexican restaurant that's been a part of the community for over 30 years in Armonk announced it will close at the end of the month.
Foodies in Westchester say Mariachi Mexico is one of their favorite restaurants. Kyle Zhang particularly enjoys their tacos.
"It was a quite crunchy, not really soggy," Zhang says.
Zhang was shocked to learn that the family-owned restaurant, now run by Joana Herrera and her sister, will close on March 23 due to a lease issue.
"I personally have tried to get in touch with the landlord and [have had] no success," Herrera says.
News 12 reached out to the landlord for comment, but he declined to speak.
The entrepreneur says the closure is emotional for her entire family because their business is approaching its 35th anniversary soon.
"My dad actually signed the lease on March 20 of 1990," Herrera says. "So, this hits you hard."
Herrera says they will throw a party to celebrate the restaurant's success the day before it closes. However, she says she wants her beloved patrons to know that this isn't the end of their eatery.
"We're currently looking for a new space. Definitely, I mean, this is not like the end of it all," Herrera says.
Herrera says they'll post updates about the status of their new location on social media once that information is available.
