Lacey Township is the latest New Jersey community to pass new laws to protect the state's pets.
Lacey officials passed an anti-tethering dog law Tuesday. Dog owners who chain their pets outside for more than six hours could face fines or have their pets taken away.
If a dog is kept outside, it also most have adequate shelter, food and water at all times. The doghouse must also be moisture- and wind-proof and have clean bedding.
Dogs in Lacey are not allowed to be chained up outside between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Little Egg Harbor, Toms River and Tuckerton have adopted similar laws.
