People gathered in New Brunswick Sunday for the annual Raritan River Festival and Rubber Duck Race.
The event benefits the Beez Foundation, which fights against and helps raise awareness for pediatric brain cancer.
Beez Foundation co-founder Susan Giardina says that brain cancer is the No. 1 killer for children.
“We started the foundation after my husband and I lost our daughter to brain cancer,” she says.
People who attended the event listen to music, met animals at the petting zoo and played games.
But the highlight of the event was the rubber duck race.
People were able to purchase the ducks by making donations to the foundation. Hundreds of rubber ducks were then dropped by crane into the Raritan River below. The winning duck was given a prize.
Giardina says that while other groups hold rubber duck racing events, the Beez Foundation’s is the only one that drops its ducks from a large egg, hoisted by a crane.
