Animal rights activists are trying to keep Edgewater from gassing the town's geese as a form of population control.

The activists were out picketing in front of Edgewater Town Hall Wednesday.

The Edgewater Council recently voted to renew a population control method that includes euthanizing the geese, a plan that was first enacted after it was determined that geese brought down the "Miracle on the Hudson" plane.

The activists say that there are better ways to control the goose population besides killing them.

"It's a non-humane way of doing it. It takes a half-hour for them to die and they basically suffocate," says activist Lisa Borregine. "There are many alternatives and they refuse to talk to us about the alternatives."

The group plans to hold another protest this Saturday.
