Rising prices and inflation have some questioning whether the savings are worth braving the crowds this Black Friday.
Almost every shopper News 12 spoke to said the same thing: prices are higher and deals are lower.
According to a recent study from NerdWallet, holiday shoppers will spend about $200 more on gifts this year than last.
“Prices are now fluctuating. Those sales aren’t as good. One store was buy one, get one 50% off. I’m just like what’s the sales there?” said Daniella Arlleano, an American Dream shopper. “It’s not really as exciting as it used to be before because the sales were really good and people used to be at the door ready to go, and now it’s just calmed down a bit.”
According to another report from LendingTree, some of the price increases are costs passed on to consumers through tariff increases.
The report estimates that if the current tariffs had been in place last year, consumers would have paid close to an extra $30 billion in total. The study said the largest portion of that burden would have come from clothing and electronics purchases, two popular holiday gift options.
