All East Orange schools will run on a half-day schedule again today, the district announced Thursday evening.

This after an abrupt announcement that schools would have a half-day schedule Thursday.

More than 70 layoffs were announced Wednesday night. While no specific reason was given from school officials about the half days, sources told News 12 New Jersey yesterday that these half days have everything to do with the layoffs.

News 12 was told that about 18 teachers called out in one school alone.

The more than 70 teacher, and other position, layoffs were announced by the superintendent, Dr. Christopher Irving, who says there is no money to pay them.
