Questions linger following Saturday?s collision of a helicopter and plane above the Hudson River over why such a busy airspace is largely unregulated.
"I think it's really time to answer,? says Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.). ?The air traffic there is far beyond what everyone expected it to be.?
One proposal favored by aviation experts is to divide the airspace and only allow helicopters to operate at 500 feet or below and small planes fly between 500 and 1,500 feet.
The NTSB has made 16 recommendations targeting the chartered aircraft industry since 2002. The FAA has not adopted any of them.
