An on-field dispute between two teams during an adult recreational softball game escalated into serious violence yesterday afternoon, Nassau County police said.
Investigators said they responded to Cedar Creek Park at 3340 Merrick Rd. around 2 p.m.
During the argument, Brian Polanco, 32, allegedly struck a 34-year-old man in the head with a metal bat, according to officials.
Police arrested Polanco and the victim was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Nassau County police charged Polanco with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Polanco pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and it was revealed in court that he has no criminal history.
