A Union City man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Hoboken pedestrian in Jersey City last year, prosecutors said.

Wilson Sanchez, 36, was arrested Friday at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus, according to officials. He is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death, endangering an injured victim and obstruction.

Prosecutors said Jersey City police were notified around 8 p.m. Dec. 29, 2025, of a possible pedestrian struck on Tonnelle Avenue near North Street. Officers found Margarito Avendano-Sanchez, 63, of Hoboken, dead on the northbound side of the road.

The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene, prosecutors said.

Sanchez was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
