An actor who played a part in an independent gangster film and used a prop pellet gun without a New Jersey gun permit was sentenced to two years' probation on charges of using a gun as a prop during a movie shoot.
Carlo Goias goes by the stage name Carlo Bellario. Bellario pleaded guilty to causing false public alarms.
Bellario was shooting a car chase scene in Woodbridge while pretending to fire the unloaded gun out the window.
But the director did not have proper permits to shoot, and area residents became concerned after seeing the gun.
"I've suffered from the case over a year of my life," says Bellario. "It caused my reputation to be tarnished in the comedy world. And all the charities and functions that I used to help raise money...it's hard for me to find work."
According to prosecutors, Bellario should have made sure the production company had permits to shoot.
