Amtrak has announced that Acela Express trains will now run directly from New York Penn Station to Washington D.C.
The nonstop service will begin Monday, Sept. 23.
The initial weekday-only schedule will offer travel times of 2 hours and 35 minutes.
The southbound train will depart Penn Station at 6:35 a.m., and is scheduled to arrive in D.C. around 9:10 a.m. The northbound train will depart Washington at 4:30 p.m., and arrive in Manhattan around 7:05 p.m.
The Acela nonstop service comes in advance of the 2021 launch of the brand-new Acela trains, which are also expected to offer nonstop service between Washington and New York and New York and Boston.
