A September 11 victim?s frantic 911 call was released Thursday, despite efforts by the city of New York to have tapes blocked.

A judge ruled Wednesday the city must provide excerpts of the emergency calls to help family members identify victims, 700 of whom were from New Jersey. The parents of Christopher Hanley shared their son?s call. Hanley, 35, is heard pleading for help on the tape, but had to wait while the police dispatcher transferred him to the fire dispatcher. Hanley then told his story again and was advised to ?sit tight.? Hanley died waiting.

The city is trying to block the latest ruling over the tapes, saying it would be too painful. Last year, an appeals court ruled in the city?s favor that only dispatchers? voices would be heard on released tapes.
