An 82-year-old Gloucester County was charged with possessing child sexual abuse material after investigators found tens of thousands of illicit files on electronic devices in his home, authorities said.

John M. Cocco, of Washington Township, was charged with one count of possession of child sexual abuse material, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said.

According to court documents, prosecutors received four tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reporting that an individual was uploading files containing child sexual abuse material.

An investigation led police to execute a search warrant at Cocco’s home, where several devices believed to belong to him were seized, prosecutors said. A forensic analysis allegedly found more than 40,000 images and 103 videos of child sexual abuse material on the devices.

Cocco turned himself in Thursday at the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 9 and faces up to 10 years in state prison if convicted.
