Flames tore through a building in Kearny, leaving six families without a home.
The fire happened overnight on Devon Street.
According to the chief, within the families, there were young children, but no injuries.
The chief says the alarms sounded off, and News 12 is told everyone got out on their own.
Crews say the fire started as a basement fire, and spread quickly.
