It was a dream come true for two families in Perth Amboy.
Morris Habitat for Humanity and Perth Amboy officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for two new affordable homes.
The three-bedroom, two-bath houses are made possible thanks to a $334,000 grant from the Department of Housing.
Maximina Velez is one of the women moving into the home. Speaking through a translator, Velez says that she has waited a long time for this.
"She is very grateful, very happy for this opportunity,” says translator Penelope Zorrilla. “It has been 21 years since she's came to this country and has wanted to own her own home, and thanks to Habitat and housing she can finally have her own house."
The homes are on two lots along Pine Street. One faces Garretson Avenue, while the other faces Inslee Street.
