The Passaic County SPCA rescued 28 dogs and four cats from a West Milford woman accused of living in filth with the animals.
SPCA agents call the conditions at Mayme Puccio?s Gould Road home deplorable. Puccio now faces animal cruelty charges.
?There?s like rags and stuff that they have in the cages ? just soaked in urine,? says Chief Robert Boyle. ?They don?t have clean food and water.?
Puccio claims she rescues animals she finds half-dead on the street. She says the SPCA should leave her and the animals alone. SPCA agents beg to differ.
"I understand trying to save an animal's life, I'm in the same boat, but you gotta give them quality of life, this was not quality of life at all," says agent Lisa Delaurentis.
