Three additional
marijuana dispensaries began selling recreational cannabis products in New Jersey on Wednesday.
Lines began forming before the 10 a.m. opening at Garden
State Dispensary. It’s the first location to offer legal recreational marijuana along the Monmouth County
coast.
“It was two hours at least two hours and a lot of time and frankly
a lot of stress,” says Lynn Buannic, of West Long Branch.
The Garden State Dispensary stores in Woodbridge, Union and
Eatontown bring the total number of recreational sales locations to 16.
In Monmouth County, many towns opted out of the business.
“They typically will become more open to it as it
normalizes,” says Julie Winter, with Garden State Dispensary.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden warns those who want to smoke
to follow local ordinances. He says complaints have increased in shore towns
since legalization.
“There is an increase in driving under the influence,” says
Golden. “We will still as law enforcement agencies be on the lookout for that.
The grants cover DUI driving under the influence so obviously those officers
who are trained with drug recognition expertise have been detecting marijuana
all along.”
Golden also wants people to know it's still illegal to mail or
carry marijuana over state lines.
