House of Thaller, a Knoxville, Tennessee, company, has voluntarily recalled selected products of hummus topped with pine nuts due to listeria concerns, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced.

HVF, Inc., an ingredient supplier notified Thaller in June that some of its roasted pine nuts tested positive for listeria monocytogenes during a routine sampling, prompting a recall of the nuts.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, the FDA said. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide through various grocery retailers, including Walmart and Stop and Shop, from April 18 to June 13, and in Canada on April 20.

The products involve 10 ounce packages of the following three brands:

To date, no illnesses have been reported in relation to the product or recall, the FDA said.

Customers who have purchased any of the recalled products should not consume them and contact House of Thaller Customer Service Center, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST, at 855-215-5142.
