A New Jersey man has been rescued after being stranded in St. Martin when Hurricane Irma made landfall.
Ciro Sylvestro was saved at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday when he boarded a US military plane and took off for Puerto Rico.
The 21-year-old's mother says she was desperate to get her son off the island.
"As a mother I would pay anything, I would give my life for my son," Debbie Sylvestro said.
Sylvestro rode out Irma from the bathroom of the Simpson Bay Resort. His mother was worried he'd also have to stay through Hurricane Jose.
Sylvestro is now off the island and resting at the San Juan Hilton. He says he wants to come home a soon as possible but the next flight available isn't until Sept. 13.
