An estimated 100,000 Ukrainian immigrants across the United States, including a 38-year-old Bridgeport mother named Oksana, face potential deportation when their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) expires on Oct. 19, 2026.

Local leaders and advocates are pleading with the Trump administration for an extension as the country remains engulfed in a deadly full-scale war.

Immigration attorney Alex Meyerovich and State Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox are actively appealing for relief, warning that forcing eligible Ukrainians in Connecticut to return home would be un-American.

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced he will contact the U.S. State Department to seek an emergency extension of Oksana's legal status and protect families from being sent back to a war zone.
