Mall arcade closed after being flooded by open food court faucet

A popular 1980s-themed arcade at a Rockaway mall is temporarily closed after an employee at the food court on the floor above left a faucet open all night, causing significant flooding.
The business manager of Marcade Family Fun Center at Rockaway Townsquare Mall posted a video message on social media Monday explaining the situation, which he described as “heartbreaking.”
He said a shop in the food court left the water on all night Sunday, causing a flood that soaked through the ceiling and flooded the arcade below. As a result, the ceiling collapsed, and multiple games in the arcade were ruined, the manager said.
The arcade managers have been in touch with the insurance company to evaluate the damage. The manager also commended mall management for its response to the situation. They are in the process of remediating the damage and repairing electrical issues caused by the water.
Despite the damage, the business manager did not want to release the name of the shop in the food court where the flood originated, saying, “It was an innocent mistake and mistakes happen.”
“Rest assured that we’re all doing the best we can to fix the problem, and we’ll have the arcade back online as soon as possible,” the manager said.
The arcade also thanked people who have reached out to offer support. A reopening date has not yet been announced. News 12 has contacted the mall and is awaiting a response.
