A 64-year-old Egg Harbor Township man was killed after his SUV crashed into a stopped box truck Wednesday afternoon, according to township police.

Police said the crash happened around 2:43 p.m. on the 1700 block of Somers Point-Mays Landing Road. Investigators said a 2019 Freightliner box truck, driven by 46-year-old Jason Chippendale of Paulsboro, had stopped in traffic to unload building materials and back down a long residential driveway.

According to police, witnesses said traffic in both directions had slowed and was waiting for the truck to reverse when a westbound 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Isaac Wogansky was unable to stop. Police said the Jeep left the roadway, traveled onto the dirt shoulder, re-entered the road and crashed head-on into the front of the box truck.

Wogansky suffered critical injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s trauma center, where he died, police said.
