The Orange Public School District is collecting donations of essential items for families displaced by a devastating house fire that killed a young girl and her grandmother Saturday morning.

Donations will be accepted beginning Wednesday through July 30.

Officials are seeking toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap, as well as basic living necessities such as socks, blankets and sleeping bags.

Items can be dropped off at the district's administrative offices, located at 451 Lincoln Ave. in Orange.

The fire broke out Saturday morning at a home on Park Place and spread to neighboring residences, displacing approximately 20 people, according to officials.

Authorities identified the victims as 8-year-old Bianca Mereste and her grandmother, 70-year-old Omilia Mereste.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
