A Massachusetts man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a Boonton bank last month, according to the FBI and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

The FBI's Boston Division announced the arrest of Joseph Sawyer, of Townsend, Massachusetts, as part of Operation Summer Heat 2.0, an FBI initiative targeting violent crime. Authorities said Sawyer was arrested in connection with two armed bank robberies: one in Nashua, New Hampshire, on June 12 and another in Boonton on June 27.

The Boonton robbery happened at a Chase Bank on Myrtle Avenue, where investigators previously said an armed suspect stole about $12,000 in cash before fleeing.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll credited the agencies involved in the investigation.

"Congratulations to the agencies who participated in this investigation, including the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Morris County Sheriff's Department under the direction of Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, Boonton Police Department under the direction of Chief Chris Petonak, and the FBI, who worked collaboratively to apprehend this alleged bank robber," Carroll said.
