Staff at Westchester County-owned Muscoot Farm in Katonah are working around the clock to keep their animals cool and safe, amidst the extreme heat.

News 12 meteorologist Julian Seawright anticipates Katonah will reach around 100 degrees Thursday, but will feel like 111 degrees.

The farm is home to around 100 animals, most of which chose a shady spot amidst today's temperatures.

Farm Director Jonathon Benjamin says shade, additional water, electrolytes and fans are all vital.

"We may hose them down or mist them. They really enjoy getting that on these super-hot days," said farm director Jonathon Benjamin.

Benjamin added many of the historic structures are built with materials like stone and cement, which keep them cooler than the outside temperatures.

"We kind of look at the forecast every week and we base what we're doing for the animals off of that instead of waiting until it's a day like today," said Benjamin.

The farm just celebrated its 51st anniversary, so if you're looking for kid-friendly plans this summer, this is the spot!
