Two people suffered minor injuries after a tank exploded at a Holbrook scrapyard Wednesday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

Police say the explosion happened around 7:30 a.m. at Arrow Metal and E-Waste Recycling on Lincoln Avenue.

Investigators say employees were working in the yard when a tank was damaged, triggering the explosion.

The scrapyard is located in an industrial section of Holbrook, but homes are also located nearby. Neighbors say they are accustomed to hearing trucks and other noise throughout the day but describe Tuesday morning’s explosion as much louder than anything they’ve experienced before.

“This is a great neighborhood. You don’t really come across too much drama. So for something like this to happen in a place where not much is going on, it sucks. Three to two minutes from the workplace. I’m glad nobody I know was affected by this,” said Taj Taylor.

Arson detectives and the Town of Islip fire marshal are investigating what was inside the tank and what caused the explosion.
