Protesters remain outside Delaney Hall in Newark this morning, where it is currently much more calm following an eventful weekend.

Protesters and ICE clashed outside the hall over the holiday weekend.

Those inside are on a hunger and labor strike while those outside continue to demand their release.

U.S. Sen. Andy Kim was hit by pepper spray during the riots outside. He also toured the facility over the weekend and said the food is disgusting and conditions are poor, and the facility should be shut down.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill arrived Monday only to be turned away by ICE.

The Department of Homeland Security called the governor’s visit a political stunt, adding those inside get three meals a day, clean water and clothing, as well as communication with their families.

They say conditions in Delaney Hall are better than most U.S. prisons that house U.S. citizens.
